Techniques incorporated into our childcare practices, not only contribute to building rapport but also serve as ways to engage the children under our care.
The following are techniques we use to see if the children we care for have musical abilities:
- Evaluate their receptivity to auditory sounds. Note if a child responds to ambient sounds, signaling an affinity for sound and music appreciation.
Pitch Proficiency Assessment: Cultivate an environment for children to partake in singing or exposure to sustained musical notes. Encourage them to replicate the pitch, showcasing an inclination toward music if achieved.
Genre Engagement Observation: Introduce children to diverse musical genres and keenly observe for signs of involvement, manifested through glazed eyes, rhythmic swaying, or unwavering attention.
Vocal Expression Monitoring: Pay attention to spontaneous singing or humming by the child. Consistent vocal experimentation may indicate a genuine passion for music.
Instrumental Inquisitiveness Test: Assess a child’s fascination with the sounds produced by musical instruments. Look for signs of curiosity or exploratory behavior. Remember, these assessments serve as guiding tools. In case of unfavorable indications, maintain an open-minded approach and persist in exposing them to the world of music. Foster their musicality through activities like humming, playing recordings, and encouraging active participation.
