Methods we use to help develop children’s autonomy

By helping to develop autonomy, we demonstrate that we trust the children and that we are proud of their accomplishments.

Methods we use to develop autonomy:

• Create a routine
  Creating a routine of tasks allows the children to accomplish.
• The phrase, “You can do this yourself”
  We use this phrase a lot. We help the children carry out activities for themselves and be autonomous.
• “Let’s clean up together”
  Demonstrate that working together allows us to work faster and easier
• Small challenges
  We give the kids a small challenges, something new, something productive.
• Encourage ideas
  Stimulate creative ideas through art and new ways of doing things
• Encourage the kids to take responsibility
  Over a period of time we can teach that being able to be autonomous is not just helpful, but more productive.
